Back in the day I focused a lot on the moment of writing, and spent a lot of time on how I was feeling writing the blog followed by updates on my life as it stood. I decided to take more of a focus on a few things in my life, primarily Music and Mountains. The reason why I started a whole new blog is because I felt like I needed a clean slate, so here I am. Now screw all this meta crap. I must type!

Audio Tracks: I feel it's only appropriate for my first post to be on the day when I started recording with a more serious approach. For those of you who don't know, I write a lot of music that fits into one form of post-hardcore or another. Lately I've been listening to a lot of A Day To Remember, Escape The Fate and I Set My Friends On Fire (ISMFOF).

Ok, I know. There's a hell of a lot more pop (for you Americans, not the soda kind) in my diet than I'm used to. I've been drawn to Post-HC with electronics, slightly auto-tuned vocals (though not overdone), and guitar effects contrasting with Metalcore breakdowns. That sparked a lot of interest for me in ISMFOF. These guys, who only just released their first full length album, have a cynical yet sensitive lyric style. My favorite track off the LP 'Things That Rhyme With Orange" paints a lyrical picture that covers a range of emotions. Sung in the first verse: "I'm so iconoclastic I'm clastic, I only want you to think that I'm fantastic, I'll participate in what you believe if you give me the attention," while later outlining people's fear of seeing or showing who they really are, "What is that paintbrush for? Are you preparing to draw me? No wait, please don't, I am scared of what I'll see."

Songs to check out:

Things That Rhyme With Orange - I Set My Friends On Fire;

ISMFOF Brings Pop and their not-so-great signature shrieking together and makes you think. Moar hooky chorusz plz?

Sorry, You're Not A Winner - Enter Shikari;

UK based Enter Shikari combines Techno with Post Hardcore. It's hard to argue with the result.

Under The Radar (a not-so-well-known group.....EVERY TIME I POST! OMG!):

Ocean Is Theory (See 'More Than Conquerers' on Youtube)

Snow Tracks:

I've been waiting for the season to start for weeks. Someone needs to be blamed because the season didn't start at an un-heard-of early November date. I say we burn the weather network! Regardless, the season should open in under seven days, and the North Shore is getting down right dumped on! It's exciting to see the pictures of the jib parks and bunny hills that are already open, and jib parks is where I plan to spend most of this season. If I scrounge enough money during December, I'm hoping to 'invest' in a Reverse Camber snowboard.

For those tech geeks out there, Reverse Camber is a new progressive take on the longitudinal shape of a snowboard. A normal 'Cambered' snowboard contacts a given surface right before the tip and tail. RC puts the contact point between the bindings at the middle of the board. When you stand on most RC boards, they still lay flat on the ground, but the shape has huge benefits to all kinds of riding.

For Groomers:

RC is more forgiving because the board flexes upward easier, so if you screw up, you don't end up face down as often.

For Street and Jib:

RC allows for easier butters. If you jib, you know what I'm talking about. ;) The good stuff. That also allows you to take a stiffer flexing deck to the streets and not look like you learned to shralp yesterday.

For Pow Pow:

RC is a beast in powder. Because of the shape the board floats almost no matter where you lean (I still advise against leaning forward). It also allows you to have a centered stance (not set back on the board), so you can surf in switch too!

I myself am pretty stoked on Never Summer's gear. The Evo-R looks pretty badass, but I need some serious cash to pick it up. Never Summer is an amazing company though. In one instance, a snowboardingforum.com user posted about an ongoing issue they had with local Vancouver shop 'The Boardroom.' The shop had had a 20% off sale, but had charged the guy full price for his deck. I saw a Never Summer executive come in, ask a few questions, and promptly inform the unfortunate Vancouverite (and conveniently the rest of the forum) that Never Summer would cover the extra 20%. Talk about customer service!

Hawt decks: Never Summer Evo-R and SL-R

That's all I got for tonight,

Peace
